Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association Chicago Chapter (DDMBA-Chicago) will be hosting our inaugural Dinner Gala in support of our New Home Vow on October 17, 2015. It will be held at the Phoenix Restaurant in Chicago’s Chinatown.

We have invited Venerable Guo Xing, Abbot of New York’s Chan Meditation Center and Dharma Drum Retreat Center, as well as Venerable Chang Zhai of the Chan Meditation Center, to join us as our special guests.

There will be 10-course vegetarian banquet-style food – dishes that you cannot normally order at the restaurant! Plus performances, “Q&A with Venerable Guo Xing,” and, of course, great company. We look forward to spending this special evening with you all!

  • “Q&A with Venerable” – a great chance to interview Venerable Guo Xing, asking him questions on Buddhism, daily practice, etc. In addition to structured interview, we will also invite audience to ask their own questions live. Don’t miss this opportunity!
  • Dharma Drum Choir 2-Part Performance on New Home Theme Song: “Our Vow” – we sing this song to express our gratitude towards our late teacher, Master Sheng Yen, who tirelessly gave of himself to help deliver all sentient beings, and to make our own vow in giving ourselves as well to complete his great vow.
  • Dharma Drum Drum Team Performance – by sounding the drum we signify that we are willing to take on the responsibility of spreading Dharma, to help many more sentient beings achieve freedom and ease in their body and mind.
  • Charity Sale of Artwork by Venerable Chi Chern – Ven. Chi Chern is Master Sheng Yen’s very first Dharma heir. Requests for him to lead meditation retreats and give Dharma talks come from all over the world every year. In addition, Ven. Chi Chern has over 40 years of experience in the art of calligraphy and painting. Learning from his ordained master, Master Chuk Mor, who was also famous in the Buddhist art world, Ven. Chi Chern developed a unique style himself. His artwork are manifestation of his deep Chan practice, and he in turn uses these artwork to tell the audience about Chan. Highly sought-after around the world, Ven. Chi Chern’s artwork is no longer simply artwork, but are Buddhadharma. Our gratitude to Ven. Chi Chern who donated his artwork for our charity sale, in support of our New Home great vow! This charity sale will be conducted during the Gala.
